Above and Beyond Launches

I want to invite you and all the people of St. Paul’s to join me in a very exciting chapter of our life together. Through our Above and Beyond campaign, which launched this past weekend, we are raising funds in recognition of how much God has blessed St. Paul’s Bloor Street and to facilitate His continued work here.

The campaign is in four parts. First, we have a hurdle of debt to overcome before we are able to embrace our future. Our successful Nehemiah project has provided us with our beautiful buildings, but the debt remaining from that project is $2.29 million.

Our current situation could be likened to our owning the Sanctuary, Cody Hall, St. Paul’s Chapel, the Gym, our Children’s Ministry rooms and the Atrium, but NOT the Great Hall… because the bank owns the Great Hall. In order to move forward into the future we need to secure the whole thing for God.

Once unencumbered we look forward to building on our already existing strengths of equipping leaders by developing a Ministry Apprenticeship Program (MAP). We are encountering more and more young men and women who are seeking a place to discern how to apply their gifts to serve both the Church and the communities in which they live. St. Paul’s can be that place but currently we do not have the resources or capacity to facilitate this exploration. MAP will be a one year, part time, exploration of ministry through mentorship, practical experience and building on spiritual gifts.

Further to that, we need to raise the requisite funds to evaluate and implement technology that can best be aesthetically utilized in the Sanctuary to enhance our worship experience through more effective sound and sightlines during worship services.

The last piece is the commitment to bless others within the wider Church in as effective a manner as possible.

Above and Beyond is a consolidating piece. It is the wrapping up of an immense leap of faith, not only to build, but to fill this container for ministry. Then it is incumbent upon us to put it to greater use as we further our mission of “equipping disciples to make disciples”.

Above and Beyond is less about fundraising and more about spiritual challenge and renewal that will launch us into the next season of God’s intentions for St. Paul’s Bloor Street.

Following our launch on March 1, packages were mailed to all friends and members of St. Paul’s on record. These packages contain our Case for Support and a pledge card. In the weeks to come we will have numerous opportunities to gather as part of a Covenant Group or as part of a larger Town Hall gathering to hear more about this exciting venture. Join us on March 26 at 7 p.m., March 29 after each service or April 26 after each service. Check the What’s Happening! for weekly updates.

I invite everyone who considers St. Paul’s Bloor Street their church home to participate in this campaign. Prayerful participation is the most important piece. No matter the size of your gift, please join us. The adventure begins.

Our pledge period runs from March 1, 2015 until May 24, 2015. For more information or a pledge card, please visit our microsite or contact Alison Chapman, Stewardship Coordinator.
