Church + Fun

If I asked you to do one of those word association tests and I gave you the word ‘church’, I doubt you would come up with the word ‘fun’. Church + fun aren’t typically words that get to spend a lot of time together. Perhaps your answer would depend a little on your age. I suspect the under 20 crowd might find church to be fun at least some of the time!

Church is about worshipping and serving the living God, learning and growing together. What could that have to do with fun?

Having fun is an invitation to engage with life without effort or striving. It is living in the moment and simply enjoying it. It is giving yourself permission to drop some of the pretense of adult life, to be yourself – like a child. God calls us to be fully ourselves – all that we have been created to be – in Him. Part of living into that call is finding ways to simply be yourself. Not only that, but we can have fun together. We can get to know one another and appreciate people in our community that we don’t yet know.

We are inviting our families to join us on Saturday, January 23 for a Skating Party at Nathan Phillips Square. A rectangle of ice in the middle of our city – a fitting place for our church family to gather.

We will take to the ice from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and even if you don’t have skates they can be rented along with a helmet. We will bring the hot chocolate and treats to warm you up.

We hope you will come. Come and have fun. Come and be yourself. Come and feel the cold air on your cheeks and remember God’s amazing creation. Have a conversation with a family you haven’t met. Come and find out which member of Ministry Team is a whiz on skates. We would love to have you join us.

Nathan Philips Square is located at 100 Queen Street West, and easily accessed by the TTC Queen Street car (501), or the subway. Take the Yonge Line subway and exit at Queen Station or take the University Line and exit at Osgoode Station. There is underground parking available below the square with access from Queen or Bay streets.

Contact me to RSVP or just meet us there.
