Meet the Nominees - Town Hall Gatherings

In preparation for the upcoming election on June 9, 2018, a series of “Meet the Nominees Town Hall Gatherings” have been planned across the Diocese.

In the Anglican Church, we elect Bishops as our senior Church leaders. In Toronto, there is one Diocesan Bishop—the lead Bishop—and four Assistant or Area Bishops. Our Bishops are also called “Episcopal” leaders which is derived from the Biblical Greek word meaning “overseer”. Archbishop Colin Johnson announced last September that he will be retiring as Bishop of Toronto at the end of December 2018.
In preparation for our upcoming Episcopal Election to elect a new Diocesan Bishop, on June 9, 2018, a series of “Meet the Nominees Town Hall Gatherings” have been planned across the Diocese.
These gatherings are intended to assist people in our Diocese, particularly members of Synod, to get to know the nominees. There are four Town Halls planned in each of the Episcopal Areas. You are more than welcome to attend the last one tomorrow evening as our discernment process continues to unfold.
York-Scarborough: May 17, 2018 - 7 to 9 p.m. St. James Cathedral 65 Church St., Toronto
A Prayer for the Diocese of Toronto’s Discernment of a New Diocesan Bishop
Almighty and All-Present God, who delights in those who earnestly seek your will, grant to your Church the riches of wisdom and discernment, that for such a time as this, a servant-leader may be chosen who reflects the character and wisdom of Jesus Christ. May this new bishop be strengthened through the encouragement and power of the Holy Spirit, as they labour for renewal, strive for unity, and seek those isolated and far from God; we pray all these things through the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
As of April 26, 2018, the Nominees for the election of a Coadjutor Bishop are:
The Rt. Rev. Jennifer Andison
The Rt. Rev. Riscylla Shaw
The Rt. Rev. Kevin Robertson
The Rt. Rev. Victoria Matthews
The Rev. Canon David Harrison
The Very Rev. Andrew Asbil
Biographical information on each of the Nominees may be found in the Convening Circular, which is available on the Diocesan Website.
