More than Sundays...

Many of us look for ways to introduce our family and friends to life at St. Paul’s. Over the coming weeks and months we are making it easy for you.

Summer is a  wonderful time to invite friends and colleagues to experience various aspects of St. Paul’s beyond just Sunday mornings. Here are a few things upcoming at St. Paul’s Bloor Street. If you are downtown during the week, swing by. We would love to see you and welcome your friends.

Tomorrow, July 14 at 12:30 p.m. Downing College Chapel Choir from Cambridge, England will give a free 45 minute concert at St. Paul’s. The choir is made up of a diverse group of scholars and volunteers including students from Downing and other colleges, and also some local residents from around the city of Cambridge. The choir will also sing this coming Sunday, July 17 at our 11 a.m. service. Invite a friend to the concert or service to hear this choir.

One of the highlights of last summer’s weekdays was the Summer BBQ. It was such a hit we are doing it again this year. Invite a friend and join us July 19-21 and 26-28, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Chef Omari will be preparing mouth-watering BBQ specials. Each lunch is only $10. It is a great opportunity to showcase St. Paul’s to those who have never visited.

The ceiling fan installation, all part of making St. Paul’s a more inviting place, continues apace. We know the scaffolding has been a wee bit distracting, but visitors comment on the way members of St. Paul’s take it in stride. We hope to have the majority of the scaffolding down and the fans doing their job by the end of the month.

This Fall we are introducing two new experiences. Alpha begins at St. Paul’s this September. The Alpha experience revolves around a meal and conversation where folks with no understanding of the Christian faith can bring their questions to explore—ask anything about life, faith and God. Start thinking about the friend you can invite. The Pilgrim experience begins in September as well. This course is designed to help you explore life as a Christian. Pilgrim unpacks the basic message and teaching of the faith, and also shows you how to pray and live like Jesus. It is reflective and conversational. Please pray about who you might invite to attend one of these experiences.

St. Paul’s Bloor Street is in our 175th year of existence. On September 8th at 11 a.m., we will be unveiling a piece of art that is an important symbol of all that we have been and believe God is calling us to be. We hope you can join us and invite a friend along.

Throughout the summer our worship services continue; our Tuesday 12:10 p.m. Communion service and of course our Sunday services at 8:15 a.m.; 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. If you have friends or family visiting—invite them along.

Finally many of you are travelling and spending time with friends and family. We pray you will have a blessed and happy time of rest and re-creation.
